MCP connector

Connect an AI assistant to Noodle

The Noodle MCP connector for Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants: address, how to connect, what it sees, tools and privacy.

The Noodle connector lets an AI assistant work in your Noodle account: search and read your pages, write notes in the vaults you allow, keep a journal and manage your calendar. It speaks MCP (Model Context Protocol), so it works with Claude, ChatGPT and any other assistant that supports remote MCP servers.

01Connector address

  • Noodle Cloud: https://mcp.noodle.shelfapp.it/mcp
  • Your own Noodle server: the address shown in Noodle under Settings > AI assistants. To turn the connector on, see the server guide.

You need a Noodle account on that server. The connector uses OAuth: no password ever goes to the assistant.

02Noodle apps on Noodle Cloud

The assistant works on the same account you use in the Noodle apps. To use Noodle Cloud in the apps:

  • Mac and iPhone: Settings > Data > Noodle Cloud, then sign in. If you prefer to enter the address by hand, use Connect a server with wss://cloud.noodle.shelfapp.it.
  • Browser: open https://cloud.noodle.shelfapp.it.

The app address (wss://) and the connector address (https://mcp.noodle.shelfapp.it/mcp) are different: the first one is for the Noodle apps, the second one for assistants. On the Mac, Claude Code and Codex can also use the app's local connector, which works without a server: Settings > AI assistants > Assistants on this Mac.

03Connecting

Claude, ChatGPT and other assistant apps

  1. Add a custom connector with the address above: in Claude, Settings > Connectors; in ChatGPT, the apps and connectors settings.
  2. The assistant opens Noodle's consent page, which shows a pairing code (for example K7QM-4F2T).
  3. In the Noodle app, Settings > AI assistants shows a request with the same code. Approve it only if you just started the connection and the code matches.
  4. Choose what the assistant may see and press Approve. Noodle asks for your second factor (Face ID, Touch ID, passkey or authenticator code). The assistant's page carries on by itself.

Claude Code, Codex and other terminal assistants

In Noodle, Settings > AI assistants > Connect an assistant > Terminal assistants, choose the access and press Create key. The key is shown once. For Claude Code:

$ claude mcp add --scope user --transport http noodle https://mcp.noodle.shelfapp.it/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <key>"

Other assistants use the same address with the Authorization: Bearer <key> header. Don't paste the key into notes, chats or repositories. Terminal assistants that support OAuth can also connect without a key, with the same approval as above.

04What the assistant sees

  • Vaults: one switch per vault, off by default; when on, read only or read and write.
  • Regular pages of your personal space: off by default.
  • Calendar: no access, read only, or read and write. External calendars stay read only and their secret addresses never reach the assistant.
  • Never: passwords, settings, backups, protected notes, the SSH and database keychain.

Giving more access asks for your second factor; taking it away doesn't. The assistant can ask for more access itself (chiedi_accesso), with the reason, but gets nothing until you approve in the app. Settings > AI assistants lists every connected assistant with its last use, Access to change the scope and Revoke, which stops it within half a minute.

Built-in limits: an assistant can't edit databases, can't delete anything permanently (pages go to the Trash and can be restored), can't create more than 200 pages a day or write pages over 2 MB. Replacing a whole page saves a version first.

05Tools

Tool names are in Italian, like the app they come from. Read-only tools are marked as such for the assistant.

ToolWhat it does
vault, accessoThe granted vaults with their rules, and what is granted overall.
mappaTitle and summary of every note in a vault or folder, to pick the right notes before opening them.
cercaSearches pages by title and text, with an excerpt.
leggi_pagina, elencaReads a page as Markdown with [[links]] and properties; lists subpages.
crea_pagina, aggiorna_paginaCreates a note; replaces a page, a section, or appends to it.

chiedi_accesso, riduci_accessoAsks for more access (you approve it in the app); gives access back immediately.

06Data and privacy

The connector reads and writes only what you granted, through your account. What the assistant reads goes to the assistant's service you chose, under its terms. On Noodle Cloud the data stays in the European Union; details in the privacy policy.
